Introducction

Drawing is a personal practice used as a vehicle for developing visual awareness; a combination of seeing, thinking, and planning that is relevant to all art disciplines. This practice not only represents the visible, but also examines and realizes ideas and memories.

Drawing as a process and product has the ability to communicate a wide variety of observations via traces of mental processing. Drawn images, on their own or supported by verbal and visual research, have the capacity to present ideas in a way that allows for broader concepts to be read at a glance and/ or in depth. Through the development of a personal visual vocabulary form the general to the specific this workshop will encourage students to investigate and develop the visual formulation of ideas in a multitude of drawn forms. Development of Individual imagery from nature and family memories and concepts through experimentation with varying methods of making, materials, and modes of presentation (performance, and conceptual maps is essential.

This workshop emphasizes an exploration of automatic and surreal ideas, materials and processes. Materials will range from the familiar to the unexpected and you will be encouraged to fully explore specific properties in your own way. Drawings begin from the visual recording of designated objects but you may continue in any direction of interest. Work produced can be either figurative or abstract. As the workshop progresses, we will expand the options for surface, mark, and meaning until the question has to be asked "But Is It a self portrait Drawing?"

Objetives

  • To draw a self-portrait drawing collective mural made from memory background and ideas of nature.
  • To draw without conscious aesthetic or self-censorship.
